Tamiya 7XF – TRF421 FWD Kit
So what is a Tamiya 7XF? Lets imagine something you need. Something you know is missing from your collection. Something your favorite RC company doesn’t make. But something someone had the idea for and found the right company to create. Thats where the void gets filled. Krazed Builds bringing another idea to reality.
A Front Wheel Drive Tamiya TRF421 option with one kit. Designed with the focus of keeping all the original TRF421 parts used and no chasing down random ones from other suppliers. Lets break it down to what you get.
Starting from the ground up we designed a chassis focused on tunability. Symmetrical flex in the right places giving control and power where its needed. Maximizing stability in the rear suspension so the front can do its job. Using 7075-T6 Aluminum we worked a design that not only does all that, it also looks amazing.
Moving the stock motor mount forward we were able to maintain balance with performance. This keeps all electronics in a nested area for controlled weight transfer. Leaving room for drivers to fine tune their balance on scales. Not being a fan of stacking all the weight over the front tires and hoping the rear stays planted. This helped create what we believe is a better transfer of weight on and off power. Letting the driver control the car instead of chasing what the car wants to do.
But we also left plenty of room for drivers to tune with weights how they want. We’re giving a 3D printed bumper with the ability to use popular cylindrical weights. Awesomatix makes these in 5g and 10g units that have a threaded center hole. Adding a Carbon Fiber upper bumper brace drivers can attach up to 70g’s directly in front of their wheels. We also added a few extra locations towards the rear to attach these weights as well as the popular stick on ones.
With the focus of chassis tuning there are plenty of options on the table. Drivers can still use the motor mount screws to fine tune more or less flex. All our fancy pockets were tweaked to deliver consistent directional flex. Something we do with all our chassis, working to maintain a balance where one end of the car doesn’t over power the other. We also tweaked the rear bulkhead location to help the car generate more grip, opening up the window between tuned and skipping around corners. Allowing the front to pull and power harder through while not worrying about the rear skipping out on them.
Moving the rear bulkheads inward we also include 2 carbon fiber shims to use between the bulkhead and shock mounts. This matches and maintains the original shock angles. If drivers want to try different setups they can also use thinner shims to help soften the rear up.
We worked some top deck designs to also be used as a tuning tool with various styles. The kits will come with our standard front and rear option giving a balanced feel for the car. There will be 2 other options for the rear moving in the direction of stiffening the flex up. The front will have an additional option available that will also be aimed at giving the driver a more direct feel to the car from entry to exit. There will also be a single top deck option available also for those looking to maintain front to back rigidity and gain the most flex.
We do include a new belt we sourced for the movement of the motor mount/center pulley. Under power the belt will maintain an alignment with the front diff. You will need to take the outdrive blades off your rear axles and use them on the front when you move the diff to the front bulkheads.
So whats included in the kit?
Youll get a new 7075-T6 Alloy chassis. This will be virgin metal with our normal brushed appearance. Sorry – Anodizing is not an option for us but theres plenty of anodizers or powder coating places out there. And if you really want to fancy it up there is even Hydro-dipping to make custom looking ideas.
Youll get a front and rear top decks in 2mm carbon fiber. These will be what we believe are the best balanced and neutral feel for the car.
In the rear it will come with a new 4mm Carbon Fiber body mount. With the bulkheads moved the factory one wont work.
The front bumper will be 3D printed TPU, same soft material as every other one out there. The file itself will also be available for free download. Ours will come in Black TPU but having the file drivers can print any color or material they want. The kit will also come with a Carbon Fiber upper bumper plate for mounting the weights. The bumper Does Not contain the weights so you will have to use attachable ones.
You will also get 2 carbon fiber shims for the rear shock tower mounts. These are used to space the shock towers back out and maintain the factor angles.
And last but just as important, two new Carbon Fiber Battery holders. After moving the motor mount forward and using shorty packs there is no rear battery stop used. The new mounts will be one ‘L’ shape for the forward holder. The rear one captures the battery helping keep it away from the spur and pinion. They both area adjustable inward and outward. and can be filed a bit if your packs are to snug between them.
The belt ….. we will include the proper belt for the new driveline.
Release Date – Soon! We are waiting some final input from our test car and material has already been ordered. Target date is September 1st. We will keep things posted on our Facebook page but be sure to follow the test car for faster updates. Swing on over to 180 Raceway’s FB page.
