Opener Thoughts

So in a weeks time it’ll be my first comp in 2 years. Nervous? Not so much nerves but more curiosity. Confidence in my truck is number 1 and I have that. Number 2 for me is just to get out there and if it blows up then so be it. There’s never been a comp I wasn’t sure something was going to let go on me and its even happened. As time went on the truck got bullet proof and failures only happened by the driver.

Sunday May 3rd is going to be a great day really because of the people. The people are what makes this turtle speed sport fun. I have met many over the years but I must say crawler geeks are a gem of their own. It doesn’t matter who’s up running, who designs the courses or who’s keeping score. When a driver gets his turn its all focus on them, the outside world means nothing. The biggest most respectful thing I see in this sport is smiles. When a driver is running its like a golf course hush, everyone respects the level of concentration and its very seldom do you hear anyone talking.

When the course is over its like a high school pep rally. You hear difference of opinions on how they would have done it but the end message always seemed to be the same. Whether you finish the course or bomb out at gate 4 everyone always congratulates you on something. They note your positive moves during your run and when you accomplish that one spot everyone else didn’t they are always telling you how incredible it was.

At the end of the day everyone shuffles to pack up their stuff and drag tail to their cars. As everyone’s leaving you always hear ‘next time I’m winning’ …. ‘see you all at the next one’ ….. ‘thanks for a good time’. Of course once they get in the car they could be yelling at themselves lol but its the level of respect that I see as the reason Rock Crawling is such a close knit part of the hobby of toy cars.

At the end of the day its gonna be some fun – and a head full of ideas on what to do next time but fun will preside over it all for me. Its gonna be a head explosion of remembering and a face full of laughter!
